23rd May 2021 – 41st Vuelta De Murcia (Costa Cálida)

The 41st edition of the Vuelta De Murcia will depart from Los Alcázares and end in Alcantarilla on Sunday May 23, with this years race being changed from its usual two day format. Instead this years race will be competed over a distance of 188km in a one-day classic format.

The route has not been released yet, as the region try’s to avoid the crowding of people, with the start and finish being susceptible. But as always the route will be varied in a region that gives many challenges, this race is sure to have some great climbs and opportunities for the fast men.

It’s great to see that although this events rearranged date coincides with the Giro d’Italia, it has not been an obstacle for some of the teams such as Movistar, Astana and UAE Emirates already confirmed from the UCI World Tour. More importantly it’s a final opportunity for Alejandro Valverde, our local legend and five time winner of this event (2004, 2007, 2008, 2014 and 2017), to compete in his his hometown race. Let’s hope he can make it six in his final race at this event as he retires at end of this season.

Finally with the organisers planning to avoid the presence and concentration of spectators, the Vuelta De Murcia will feature live on Eurosport. Don’t miss the opportunity to watch this great event because of social distancing, simply tube in to EuroSport between 17:15h and 19:15h on Sunday 23rd May.
