Ricote Valley – GPX Route 2

Ride Overview

Switch up your perspective on one of Murcia’s most iconic routes with the Ricote Valley Reverse Loop. This reversed version of the classic Ricote ride packs in early climbing, stunning vistas from higher ground, and a flowing return through lush river valleys and historic towns.

It’s a fantastic alternative for riders who prefer to tackle the toughest ascents early before enjoying a long, gradual descent through one of the most beautiful and culturally rich areas in southern Spain.

Rides Statistics

  • Distance: 103.8 km

  • Elevation Gain: 1,125 m

  • Difficulty: Challenging

What to Expect Along the Ride

Rolling out from Murcia City’s eastern edge, this route heads west across smooth rural roads before beginning its main climb after 30 km. The climb builds steadily with switchbacks and scenic views until it peaks just past the 50 km mark.

From there, the reward kicks in—an extended descent into the Ricote Valley, flowing through Abarán, Cieza, and the historic village of Ricote, before reaching Archena for a potential café stop. The final leg is mostly flat, cruising through fertile lowlands back to the start.
