Need a route that’s longer than the classic coastal loops yet still leaves you daylight for the pool? The Vega Baja & Rebate Climb Challenge heads north from Mar Menor Golf Resort into the fertile Vega Baja orange belt, tackles the famed Rebate ascent (Murcia-Region gran-fondo staple), then loops back past San Javier for a fast, flat run-in. With ~600 m of gain across 99 km, it’s a perfect tempo day: enough climbing to test the legs, plenty of smooth kilometres to keep average speed high, and panoramic farmland views all the way.

What to Expect
Rolling citrus country – Slice through lemon and orange groves on traffic-light farm roads as you skirt the Segura river plain.
Rebate ascent (km 46-51) – 5 km at 3-6 % with switchbacks, olive terraces and a photo-worthy mirador at the chapel.
Fast coastal return – Re-enter the Mar Menor corridor near San Javier; wide shoulders and billiard-smooth asphalt make it easy to hold a steady paceline.
Village cafés everywhere – Ideal refuel stops in Balsicas (km 20) and San Miguel de Salinas (km 55).
