La Torre Golf Resort – GPX Route 3
Ride Overview
Route 3 is the perfect “all-rounder” for riders who want one solid climb, miles of flowing valley roads and a finale that skims the shimmering Mar Menor. From the resort you tackle the pine-scented ascent of the Sierra de Altaona, descend into the fertile Segura basin, then swing east to the citrus-grove backroads north of San Pedro del Pinatar before cruising home along gently rising campo lanes. With 810 m of elevation spread over 89 km, it’s a confidence-boosting test for intermediate cyclists or a tempo ride for stronger legs.

What to Expect
Rolling north from La Torre’s palm-lined avenue, you’re almost immediately into the day’s marquee climb: Alto de Garruchal (avg 4–5 %, 250 m gain). The shaded switchbacks are kind on cool legs and reward you with big-sky views across Murcia’s huerta once you crest the ridge.
A fast, grin-inducing descent delivers you onto valley tarmac where orange and lemon orchards stretch to the horizon. Here the terrain turns rolling—ideal for pace-line work—until you angle east towards Pilar de la Horadada and the salt-tinged air of the Mar Menor. Expect a light sea breeze and the occasional flamingo silhouette as you skirt the lagoons north of San Pedro del Pinatar.
The run-in home is a gentle false-flat that favours a steady diesel engine or spirited group rotations before you dive back through the resort gates, legs pleasantly worked and ready for a poolside refuel.
Key Highlights
Alto de Garruchal viewpoint: 360° panorama over the Segura valley and distant Mediterranean.
Endless orchard lanes—blossom-fringed in spring, citrus-scented year-round.
Mar Menor glimpses and salt-flat wildlife north of San Pedro del Pinatar.
Newly resurfaced valley roads perfect for 28 mm tyres and aero cruising.
Rider Tips
Best ridden mid-morning: cafés open after the descent, temps still mild on the coast.
Compact or mid-compact gearing keeps the Garruchal ramps friendly (max ~8 %).
Refill points: Venta El Pintao café at km 30 and Pilar de la Horadada main plaza at km 60.
Carry a light gilet: the exposed coastal section can feel breezy even under sun.
Download the GPX to Garmin, Wahoo or Komoot and ride worry-free offline.
