Description

Torrevieja – GPX Route 2

Ride Overview

Link the vivid pink salt‑lakes of Torrevieja with the sweeping coastal cliffs of Santa Pola and the citrus‑scented orchard roads south of Elche. This is an endurance‑friendly circuit—long on kilometres but mercifully light on climbing—making it perfect for building base miles or enjoying an unrushed day in the saddle.

Rolling out along Torrevieja’s palm‑lined promenade, you skirt the lagoon fringe before heading inland on pancake‑flat rural lanes past San Fulgencio and Crevillent. A gentle rise delivers breezy views across El Hondo Natural Park before the route drops toward the Mediterranean, tracing the coast beneath Santa Pola’s honey‑coloured cliffs. A final flat blast brings you back via the salt flats to your starting point on the seafront.

Rides Statistics

  • Distance: 111.23 km

  • Elevation Gain: 464 m

  • Difficulty: Intermediate

  • Estimated Time: 4–5.5 hours

  • Start/Finish: Torrevieja seafront (Playa de la Mata)

What to Expect

  • Fast, low‑traffic campo lanes that make it easy to settle into a steady rhythm.

  • Only one notable rise (max 5 % gradient) near km 70—50/34 T gearing on our bikes keeps the spin comfortable.

  • Potential headwinds on the coast—save some legs for the exposed stretch between Santa Pola lighthouse and Guardamar del Segura.

  • Plenty of café options in San Fulgencio (~km 35) and Santa Pola (~km 80) for tostadas, cortados and water refills.

Key Highlights

  • Torrevieja’s Pink Salt Lakes – surreal pastel views, especially at sunrise.

  • El Hondo Natural Park – wetlands alive with flamingos and migrating birds.

  • Santa Pola Lighthouse Viewpoint – panoramic Mediterranean vistas.

  • Endless Citrus Groves around Elche—the “Orchard of Europe.”

Rider Tips

  • Ideal for intermediate cyclists comfortable with 4+ hour rides but wanting minimal climbing.

  • Start early to beat coastal winds and grab golden‑hour photos over the salinas.

  • 2 × 750 ml bottles recommended; water stops every 30–40 km.

  • Sunscreen is a must—shade is scarce.

  • Download the GPX to your Garmin, Wahoo or Komoot for offline navigation.
