The “Murcian Carbon Road Coast and Climb Tour“ was initially created for a cycling club from Sweden who wanted to tour in the region using our “Tailored Cycling Holiday” service. Having recently reviewed some of the routes included in this package we have decided that this offers great value to our “Cycling Holiday Packages” as it showcases one of Europe’s hidden cycling gems. This tour gives unrivalled access to some of our personal favourite routes with a great mix of coastal and inland rides. This 6 day tour never stops giving, with many happy cycling memories made, this will definitely leave you wanting more.

For our “Murcian Carbon Road Coast and Climb Tour“ you will stay in four different locations, starting in Los Alcázares, which is a fantastic location for a cycling holiday or training camp. From here you take a ride along the Mar Menor Lagoon coastline and over to the Mediterranean coast, which provides gentle flats and challenging climbs to help you acclimatise. The following day will contrast with a route that will take you inland towards the hills of the Sierra Carrascoy and through the rich agricultural countryside. On returning to you hotel it’s time to explore the local area, hit the beach or simply relax in the hotel and enjoy the facilities such as sauna, spa, or even a relaxing massage.

On day three it’s time to relocate, and head towards the Mediterranean coast towards you next base in Puerto de Mazarron. This ride will take you via the historic city of Cartagena and then onto Alto de la Cedacero, which is a well known local climb. The descent into La Azohia is truly memorable as the landscape changes to ocean views, as you work your way through Isla Plana to Puerto de Mazarron where your luggage will be waiting for you in the hotel reception. It’s an opportunity to head to the beach, find a chiringuito and sample a few tapas dishes or explore the local area.

Day four starts with a coastal ride to Aguilas via Calabardina with countless photo/ selfie opportunities along the way. From Aguilas we change direction and head inland toward your next hotel located in the Sierra Espuña via Lorca and Totana. After a long day in the saddle the facilities at this hotel are perfect to help you unwind and relax in preparation for tomorrow’s climb up the Collado Bermejo.

This hotel is used by the Sports and Races Team as the base for winter training camps which we advertise the opportunity to join them and benefit from a structured program of activities that will prepare you for the season ahead.

On day five the only way is up as you set off towards Aledo and then onto the Vuelta de Murcia and UCI Vuelta a España famed Collado Bermejo climb. This route never stops giving as it is both challenging and the views of the region are spectacular.

The final planned route of the tour takes you back through the rolling agricultural countryside towards the city of Murcia via the steepest climb of the tour. One last test before you depart is the Cresta Del Gallo, which again has featured in the Vuelta de Murcia and UCI Vuelta a España. A great finish to the tour with stunning views across the city especially if you capture these at sunset. With a short ride into the city to your final hotel it’s time to head out for a night in the city with a great selection of bars and restaurants or maybe even try a tapas route through the narrow streets.

Accommodation

Airport Transfers

You will be picked up by private transfer from Alicante or Murcia airport at the start of your trip and taken to your hotel in the Mar Menor. On return the private transfer will be provided ensuring you arrive on time at the airport to check in for your return flight.

Routes

Prior to arrival we will send a GPX routes to your group leader for easy download to your GPS devices. (Garmin, Wahoo, etc.)

We will also provide a daily route briefing sheet, so you have named locations, distance, elevation and advice on point of interest and best cafes stops. This will help you to enjoy your cycling holiday.

Bike Hire

This holiday price is based on a Focus Izalco Race 9.8, but Cervélo S-Series and R-Series Disc Ultegra bikes are available for a small addition cost per individual.

Emergency Assistance

All our bikes are in great condition so you should not have any problems during your holiday. In the unlikely event you have a mechanical issue we are happy to provide road side assistance. You will be given an emergency service number for a representative to come out and replace or repair your bike (not including basic maintenance such as slipped chain or puncture). Details of this service are outlined in our booking terms and conditions.
