What's the weather like?

Our clients enjoy cycling holidays in the Murcia region because of the fantastic year-round climate. We have produced the following information as a guide for your consideration when planning your cycling holiday with us.

Many cycling groups/ teams train here during the winter months, and it is not uncommon to see professional riders throughout the year. With access to events like the UCI Vuelta de Murcia, held annually in February, the opportunity to escape the winter. Winter is a great time to escape the colder climes of Northern Europe and enjoy some warmer/ sunnier weather, there are also some great reasons to visit here in Spring, Summer and Autumn.

Spring

Spring to early summer is a fantastic time to visit the Murcia region, as the weather gets progressively warmer, with most rides starting and finishing in short sleeves. Typically, it is dry and sunny, although some mornings can still feel cooler in early Spring.

This time of year is a popular time for groups, clubs or friends to enjoy long days of sunshine cycling with plenty of tapas refreshment stops. Spring is definitely the perfect time for booking a Carbon Road Elevation or Tour de Murcia, cycling holiday package.

Summer

Murcia can be very hot in the summer months, not only the sunshine but also the humidity. This type of climate favours early morning or evening rides, although the temperature is balanced in the coastal area by the welcome breeze.

So you can still enjoy some excellent cycling, leaving the day to enjoy the beach or pool with your family.

Autumn

The Autumn months in the region of Murcia, offer warm sunny days that allow you to enjoy longer rides. The mornings are warmer than the Spring and the humidity is lower, especially as you leave the coastal areas.

Rain showers are rare but significantly more likely at this time of year, with highs of 29c and lows of 16c. This is the perfect time for a late summer getaway or a cheeky “Carbon Road Weekender” with your cycling club or group of friends!

Winter

November to March Is an extremely popular time of year for cycling holidays with good reason. Many cyclists come to enjoy the coastal and mountain rides, taking the benefit of winter sunshine and escape the turbo-trainer.

November is the wettest month, but with highs of 24^oc on dry days it is not bad news, with the average highs of 19^oc and lows of 10^oc it could be worse.

Through November to March the mornings are cooler as the sunrises later, but most of the days are sunny. Enhanced by blue skies the days are much longer than those on offer in Northern Europe. With a possible 15^oc difference from morning to afternoon, mid-morning starts are definitely the order of the day.

Accommodation

All our Murcia cycling holiday packages include cyclist friendly hotel accommodation on bed and breakfast board basis, where you can relax or enjoy the facilities after a great days riding. The hotels we work with have been used many times by other customers and come highly recommended, ensuring you are comfortable and well rested for the roads ahead.

Airport Transfers

You will be met in arrivals at either Alicante or Murcia airport, and taken by private transfer to your hotel in the Mar Menor or Sierra Espuna. On return the private transfer will be provided ensuring you arrive at the airport on time to check in for your return flight.

Routes

Prior to arrival we will make GPX routes available to your group so you can pre-load your itinerary easily to your GPS device (Garmin, Wahoo, etc.). We can also provide details a daily route briefing sheets, so you have named locations, distance, elevation and advice on point of interest and best cafes stops etc.

Bike Hire

Included in all our Murcia cycling holiday packages holiday is the use of a BMC Teammachine SLR Five with 105 Di2 12 Speed groupset, with a choice of framesizes from 47cm XS, 51cm S, 45cm M, 56cm L and 58cm XL.
