Suggested Itinerary**
Day 1 – Arrival and optional ride
Arrival – Check in to Jardines De La Santa Hotel 4* Half Board, and the opportunity to ride around the around the Sierra Espuña Regional Park.
Day 2 – GPX Route for ride Collado Bermejo and Alto Espuna
Today’s ride will take us over to Murcia, where we will head for the Vuelta de Murcia famed climb of the Collado Bermejo and Alto Espuña, taking in the opportunities to stop at the viewing points is optional as we work our way to the 1530m summit. This features on La Vuelta 3rd September 2023 in a stage route from Cartagena to Caravaca de la Cruz.
Day 3 – GPX Route for ride to Los Alcázares via Puerto de Mazarrón, Alto de el Cedacero and Cartagena
Having enjoyed 2 nights in the Sierra Espuña, it’s time to get those legs spinning with todays destination of Los Alcázares on the shores of the Mar Menor lagoon. Taking you up the coast from Puerto de Mazarron to the beautiful port of Cartagena and its roman heritage. From here you will make your way to Los Alcázares.
Day 4 – GPX Route for ride from Los Alcázares to Collado de los Ginovinos and Embalse de la Pedrera
For your penultimate ride will take you from Los Alcázares you’ll head out into the agricultural area through the orange groves to the Collado de los Ginovinos & Embalse de la Pedrera.
Before you head back to the hotel to pack for departure its always great to finish a weekender at a beach bar for a well earned cerveza or two!
Day 5 – Los Alcazares to La Manga, Portman and La Union
For your final ride ride we make one last trip around the Mar Menor lagoon to the Mediterranean coast.
On completion of your last ride, its time for a few beers and reflection on the tour in the perfect setting of a beach Chiringuito or local bar before taking a shower and preparing for your airport transfer.

November 2023 - Berkhamsted Cycling Club
In early November 2023 we hosted a group from Berkhamsted Cycling Club on a Carbon Road Tour de Murcia 4 night cycling holiday package. Arriving at Alicante airport the group were greeted at the airport and transferred to the Jardines de la Santa Hotel, where we were waiting to meet them.
With the sun shining, there’s no time to waste as we escort them to the reception desk to check in and then it’s onto the bike setup/ familiarisation. With everyone happy our guests can safely get out onto the quiet roads of the Sierra Espuña and start their cycling holiday.
As this was a self-guide cycling holiday, from here we maintain communication via WhatsApp, to ensure everything is going to plan and offer support if needed during the holiday.
The Jardines de La Santa Hotel is a 16th-century monastery located between Totana and Aledo, in the countryside of Murcia. The Santa Eulalia Monastery is made up of several typical Spanish buildings that formerly formed one of the largest convents in the region. These buildings have been carefully renovated to offer all the comforts of a modern hotel.
If your looking for challenging climbs and stunning views that never stop giving, then the Sierra Espuña regional park is definitely your cycling heaven.
After the challenging terrain/ routes in the Sierra Espuña it was time to check out and for us to meet at the hotel to transfer the luggage to the Hotel 525 in Los Alcázares. But instead of taking a transfer the group opted for the 100km route to Mazarron, Cartagena and finally towards Los Alcázares in the shores of the Mar Menor lagoon.
Arriving in Los Alcázares for 2 nights at the 4 star 525 Hotel on a bed and breakfast package, and access to a well equipped with gym, leisure pool and bike storage. In total contrast to the previous hotel location we are now in walking distance to the beach, bars and restaurants.
Los Alcázares is a fantastic location as a base for a cycling holidays or training camp. Set on the shores of the Mar Menor lagoon measuring some 170 square kilometres. The lagoon consists of warm salt waters, and was originally a bay that opened out to the Mediterranean. Now separated from the sea by a narrow bank of sand some 24 kilometres long known as La Manga Del Mar. A curious whim of nature that presents extensive beaches washed by the sea on both sides. And due to the excellent climate in the area this is an ideal spot for pursuing all kinds of sports throughout the year.
