Why not talk to us about planning a tailored coastal cycling holiday in the Murcia, Spain with the benefit of the Mar Menor Lagoon and the better known Mediterranean sea. Both offer flattish terrain that give easy access to many beaches. Or maybe explore the hidden coves and the port of Cartagena with its Roman heritage. It’s not all flat though, with the road from Cartagena to La Azohia, Isla Plana and the Port of Mazarron mixing it up a little. This road was used in the 2018 Vuelta a España, Stage 6 and is part of a great cycling route available in our GPX download section of the MHB Shop.
But If you’re looking for a more challenging cycling adventure, then why not venture to Sierra Espuña Natural Park, and the Collado Bermejo. We offer a guided ride experience here or you can download the route from our MBH Shop. Collado Bermejo is the most well-known climb in this region, topping out at 1550m. The experience and memories from this climb will definitely stay in you cycling memories for many years to come.
It doesn’t stop there, as the region has a number of other climbs that feature in the annual Vuelta de Murcia and have also featured in the Vuelta a España. These form part of our “Cuatro Fabulosos”, which will take you through many different landscapes.
The Murcia region is often called the “Garden of Europe” as agriculture is an important part of the local economy. In the coastal areas of the Mar Menor your rides will take you among the fields, where 80% of Europe’s fruit and vegetables are grown. Whilst further inland the tree lined fields are more likely to be those of apricots, almonds and olives.
But it doesn’t end there, as the region of Murcia is also a thriving wine producing areas in Bullas, Mula, Yecla and Jumilla. The little know wine route is a great place to spend as much time soaking up the history, harvest festivals or simply sampling the local wines as a welcome end to your days cycling.
