At the beginning of November we had the pleasure of welcoming Tara and Richard from Kent, UK, who were staying at the Altaona Golf & Country Village (previously known as Mosa Trajectum).
Having initially sent an enquiry about bike availability and also possible routes, which we promptly responded to, a booking was made via the MBH online shop. Prior to arrival we communicated further and suitable GPX routes were emailed in preparation for there cycling holiday.
We delivered the bikes, taking time to setup and familiarise them both with the Cervélo R-Series and provided Look Keo pedals. Before leaving we always discuss the GPX routes provided and offer advice about the best coffee stops etc to ensure the rides go smoothly.
With 4 days cycling ahead of them, the support/ assistance doesn’t stop there, as we continue to be available, communicating mainly through WhatsApp to ensure everything is going to plan. One example of our support on this occasion was the panic of realising the cleats on one pair of shoes were not compatible with the pedals requested, but not a problem for us as we have spare cleats on our delivery vehicle, so were able to provide Look Keo cleats. Panic Over!
With no other problems during the rental, we looked forward to collecting the bikes on the final day and taking the opportunity to chat about the routes and their experiences.
With great weather and daily temperatures of between 18 & 20 degrees, November is a great time of year for a Murcia cycling holiday. Note the short sleeves and shorts in the pictures below, as apposed to the usual attire worn at this time of year by cyclists in countries such as Belgium, Netherlands, Sweden, UK and Ireland.
Examples of the gpx routes provided
Here are a few of the cycling routes that helped to make long lasting happy memories for Tara and Richard in the Murcia region.
- Mar Menor bay to Portman and La Union, which included a climb used in the La Vuelta 2021, Stage 8. (Distance 56km and 440m Elevation Gain).
- Sierra Espuña Regional Park, is a unforgettable climb, with scenery that never stops giving, with the ultimate reward of amazing views from Murcia’s highest road climb. (Distance 67km and 1,530m Elevation Gain).
- Cresta del Gallo and Collado Ginovinos, with contrasting views one across the city and region of Murcia the other resembling a moon scape. (Distance 69km and 1,067m Elevation Gain)
All of these rides included the obligatory coffee stop with the opportunity to visit a local tapas bar never to far away, and a seat in the winter sunshine.
We also learnt that this was Tara’s first time riding with cleats, where they completed local climbs such as Portman, Cresta Del Gallo, Collado Ginovinos, Collado Bermejo and Alto de Espuña. “Wowzers” what an achievement “Chapeau Tara!”.
Take a look through the selection of pictures below, and consider joining us for a Murcia cycling holiday in the future!
Murcia Cycling Memories
We look forward to welcoming Tara and Richard back in the near future, so we can provide more stunning routes and memories in the vegetable garden of Europe, that will leave them wanting more!
Richard is also a member of two cycling clubs back in the UK, and was keen to talk about the possibility of arranging a club trip in 2022. Hopefully Richard and his club mates will consider a future trip to cycle the gems of Murcia and Alicante, and from this blog maybe the story is to be continued……
